Gelar Alam Motorcycle Route: 5-Day Cultural & Offroad Expedition Through Sukabumi

This route doesn’t hand you a paved loop with a temple stop bolted on for the brochure. It runs you through three route variations into the forest belt above Palabuhanratu, drops you into a working Kasepuhan community for a full day, then pushes back out through 30km of gravel, hill sections, and single track before the coast. You’re on adventure-class machines — CRF Rally 250, CFMoto 450, KTM 390 — built for exactly this mix.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: Jakarta to Palabuhanratu

Pickup in Jakarta, transfer to Bogor, and that’s where the motorcycles take over. From Bogor you ride toward Palabuhanratu on small winding roads through local villages — the kind of road that lets you actually see the country instead of just passing through it. Three route variations are available for this leg, from fully paved to a mixed gravel-dirt-forest route through Citarik, depending on how much dirt you want under the wheels this early. Overnight in Palabuhanratu, breakfast included.

Day 2: Palabuhanratu to Gelar Alam

The pavement runs out here. The road turns to light offroad terrain as you head into the forest toward Gelar Alam, with a flat, fast track section where you can comfortably run 50–70 km/h depending on your skill level — open, flowing riding that rewards a bit of throttle confidence. You arrive at Gelar Alam in the evening and overnight in a local homestay or nearby guesthouse, breakfast included.

Day 3: Inside Kasepuhan Gelar Alam

A full day inside Sundanese village life. Gelar Alam is home to a Kasepuhan community — part of the wider Kasepuhan Banten Kidul adat network — and where arrangements can be made in advance, you get access to traditional performances and conversations with villagers, not a staged show put on for tourists. This is the part of the route that doesn’t show up on a normal touring map. Second night in the homestay, breakfast included.

Day 4: Gelar Alam to the Coast

Riding out through dense forest on a route that opens toward the coast — roughly 30km of gravel and dirt track with some hill sections and single track, all within range for big adventure bikes with a rider who’s paying attention. This is the forest-to-beach transition that makes the route worth the two days it took to get here. Overnight back in Palabuhanratu, breakfast included.

Day 5: Citorek, Cianten, and Back to Jakarta

From the Gelar Alam area toward Citorek, passing the Cianten tea plantation, with a stop at a hot spring along the way — a slower, cooling-down final day before heading back through Bogor to Jakarta to close out the trip.
